Learning English in a Flash - LEAF

Mission: To provide resources and tools to assist immigrants in succeeding in our society encompassing language, education, political representation, health care, citizenship, financial literacy, and any other needs the immigration population needs to seize opportunity in our country.

Current Initiative: To provide supplementary material to Title I schools in Nevada with flashcards and a digital app that assists ELL students who predominantly speak Spanish in grades K-3 with English fluency.

Initiative 2024: Create awareness of immigrant education needs as an actionable public policy initiative.

As founder and President for Empowering Immigrants, I created thousands of flashcards for Spanish speaking students to build their English proficiency in disadvantaged Clark County Schools. I obtained a 501(c) (3) public charity status with the IRS, established a domain, designed a website, and created a social media presence on Facebook to bring awareness and empathy to the struggles of immigrants in our community, and increase the availability and access of supplementary language-learning resources. I organized and led the Spanish Honor Society at Bishop Gorman High School with small groups of peers to participate in making and distributing flashcards.

As I grew the organization, LEAF (learning English in a flash) was created, a free app on Apple and Android phones geared for students in grades K-3. This app is efficient and students can interact with the app by hearing the word in Spanish and English, seeing a picture of the word in Spanish and English, and watching a video on how the word is pronounced. To find the app on android platform search "Learning English in a Flash" with the quotation marks.

Recently, the organization has been working diligently with the Clark County School District Advisory Committee to facilitate and create awareness of the app for supplementary use.
